CARSON, Calif.--Kim Halloran's goal in the 38th
minute was all Humboldt State would need as they held on for a 1-0
shutout victory over the Cal State Dominguez Hills women's soccer
team Sunday afternoon at Toro Field. The loss brings to an end the
Toros eight-game win streak dating back to September 3.
CSUDH, ranked No. 8 in the last NSCAA/adidas
national poll, drops to 10-2-0 while Humboldt State elevates to
8-3-0.
The game was scoreless until 38:07 when HSU's
Jenna Hunter sent a pass inside the box where Halloran collected,
and drilled her shot to the upper far post.
The Toros had a chance to tie the game in the
66th minute, but Nikki Szlak's (Long Beach/Los Alamitos HS) shot
went off the post.
Cal State Dominguez Hills, who outshot Humboldt
21-11 in the game, could not finish their chances today with three
shots going off the post and others sailing either wide or high
off the crossbar.
Toro goalie Alba Garcia (Chino/Don Lugo HS)
suffers the loss while making a season-high seven saves. Staci
Self earned the win for HSU with six saves in the net.
Cal State Dominguez Hills is back in action
this weekend traveling to Sonoma State on Friday, October 10.
