Complete Box Score

CARSON, Calif.--The Cal State Dominguez Hills men's soccer team dominated visiting Chico State in a showdown between the top two teams in the NCAA II Far West Region, blanking the Wildcats 4-0 while solidifying its top spot atop the regional poll in California Collegiate Athletic Association action Friday at Toro Field.

CSUDH, ranked No. 4 in the latest NSCAA/adidas national poll, elevates to 13-1-2 and 7-1-2 in CCAA play while Chico State, ranked No. 12 in this week's poll, drops to 12-3-1 and 7-2-1 in league action.

It was a scoreless game until the 35:15 mark when Eddie Gonzales-Pinto (Torrance/N. Torrance HS) scored what turned out to be the game-winner. Ryan Taylor (Chino Hills/Ayala HS) sent a ball down the right flank to Rick Cobb (Downey/Warren HS), who crossed his pass inside the box to Gonzales-Pinto, who then one-timed his shot to the near post for a 1-0 lead.

At 41:40, Mikkael Hernholm (La Verne/Bonita HS) scored his fifth goal of the year in spectacular fashion, taking a long flick from Taylor on the left side. Hernholm dribbled inside the box beating three defenders before maneuvering past goalie Dominic Jakubek to the near post for a 2-0 lead.

Francisco Corona (Compton/Compton HS) put the game out of reach at 69:16 when he scored his team-leading 11th goal of the season, taking a touch from Chris Wimmer (Huntington Beach/Fountain Valley HS) at the top of the box and drilling his shot to the near post past drawn out keeper Jakubek.

Then, with just under five minutes to play, Eduardo Serrano (Toluca, Mexico) tallied his 10th goal of the year on another assist from Wimmer. Serrano accepted a pass inside the box and flicked his shot past Jakubek inside the near post for the final margin.

CSUDH outshot the Wildcats, 28-6, while controlling the tempo of the match.

Jakubek took the loss for CSUC while making five saves in goal. Javier Barragan (Long Beach/LB Jordan HS) made only one save while earning his 12th win of the year.

The Toros are back in CCAA action on Sunday when they host UC Davis beginning at 3 PM.
