October 25, 2003

Complete Box Score

CARSON, Calif.--Ryan Taylor (Chino Hills/Ayala HS) scored two goals to lead No. 4 Cal State Dominguez Hills to a 4-1 California Collegiate Athletic Association victory over visiting Cal State Stanislaus Saturday afternoon at Toro Field.

CSUDH improves to 15-1-2 and 9-1-2 in CCAA play while extending its unbeaten streak to seven games. Cal State Stanislaus drops to 5-10-3 and 2-9-1. The win clinches at least a share of the CCAA Central Division crown for the Toros.

Wilmer Lopez (Inglewood/Inglewood HS) started the scoring for CSUDH in the 28th minute. Lopez took a nice pass from Eduardo Serrano (Toluca, Mexico) and hit his shot to the far post where it deflected in. That's where the score stayed as the Toros took a 1-0 lead into the break.

Michael Jimenez (Gardena/Bishop Montgomery HS) scored what turned out to be the game winner just a 1:44 into the second half. At 46:44, Jimenez headed in a pass from Taylor to the near post just past Stanislaus goalie Brian King to make it 2-0.

Just over a minute later, Taylor scored the first of his two goals, taking a Mikkael Hernholm (La Verne/Bonita HS) pass inside the box and muscling his shot to the back of the netting for a 3-0 advantage at 47:53.

Taylor gave CSUDH a 4-0 lead just under three minutes later, this time taking a nice feed inside the penalty box from Jesse Graham (San Diego/Point Loma HS). With a drawn out goalkeeper, Taylor sent his shot to the far post at 50:24.

The Warriors finally got on the scoreboard at 54:45 when Kyle Nicolson tallied his first goal of the year off a corner kick from Graham Gustafson.

The Toros dominated play today outshooting the visitors 31-3, including a 17-1 margin in the first period.

Javier Barragan (Long Beach/LB Jordan HS) earned the win for Cal State Dominguez Hills while only making one save in goal. King took the loss for the Warriors while making eight saves.

CSUDH is back in league action on Wednesday traveling to Cal State Bakersfield at 5 PM.
