No. 17 Toros Women Defeat Cal State Stanislaus, 4-1
CSUDH outshoots Warriors 22-9 in CCAA match
October 25, 2003

Complete Box Score

CARSON, Calif.--Chantel Eastwood (Garden Grove/Mayfair HS) tallied the game-winning goal for the Toros in the 35th minute of play as Cal State Dominguez Hills came back from an early 1-0 deficit and scored four unanswered goals to defeat visiting Cal State Stanislaus, 4-1, Saturday after noon at Toro Field in California Collegiate Athletic Association play.

CSUDH, ranked No. 17 in the latest NSCAA/adidas poll, improve to 13-3-1 and 10-1-1 in league action, while Cal State Stanislaus drops to 9-7-2 and 5-6-1.

Mosey Murgia put CSUS up 1-0 at the 13:12 minute mark, taking a nice pass from Danielle Ciraulo from the right side and sent her shot to the far post.

Sarah Gibson (La Habra/Sonora HS) tied it for the Toros at 29:37 when she took a Laci Gruner (Long Beach/Mayfair HS) throw-in, dribbled to the top of the box and blasted her shot to the upper far post for the equalizer.

Eastwood then scored the game-winner, collecting a deflection off a Warrior defender and sending her blast to the upper far post to make it 2-1. That was all the Toro defense would need holding Stanislaus to two shots in the first half.

Gruner gave CSUDH a 3-1 lead at the half with her fourth goal of the season at 39:18. Gruner took a nice crossing pass from Kristen Walsh (Lakewood/Mayfair HS) and tapped her shot to the near post. Lisa Marino (Hesperia/Hesperia HS) was also credited with an assist on the play.

Kim Hearn (Whitter/Whittier HS) put the game out of reach when she registered her first goal of the year. At 48:12, Hearn took a nice pass from the right side from Walsh and sent her shot to the back of the net to make it 4-1.

Cal State Dominguez Hills controlled the game from the outset, outshooting the Warriors 22-9, including a 15-2 margin in the first half.

Alba Garcia (Chino/Don Lugo HS) made three saves in goal to earn the win for the Toros. Breanna Vaughan made seven saves for the visitors while taking the loss.

CSUDH is back in CCAA action on Wednesday traveling to Cal State Bakersfield at 7 PM.
