BAKERSFIELD, Calif.--Kristen Walsh
(Lakewood/Mayfair HS) tallied her third goal of the season to lead
Cal State Dominguez Hills to its third-consecutive win with a 1-0
hard-fought decision over Cal State Bakersfield in California
Collegiate Athletic Association action Wednesday night.
The win improved the No. 17 Toros to 14-3-1 and
11-1-1 in CCAA play. CSUDH completes the regular season schedule
without a loss on the road finishing 6-0-1 away from Toro Field.
CSUB meanwhile drops to 4-12-2 and 3-9-1 in league play.
After a scoreless first half, Walsh accepted a
perfectly-placed low cross inside the penalty box from Candace
Hearn (Whittier/Whittier HS) and tapped her shot to the near post
past CSUB goalie Mandy Cutshall seven minutes into the second
period at 52:33.
That was all the Toro defense would need as
they stifled several Roadrunner chances in the second half.
It was an evenly played match with Cal State
Dominguez Hills outshooting CSUB, 19-14.
CSUDH goalie Alba Garcia (Chino/Don Lugo HS)
earned the win making six saves in goal while notching her fifth
shutout of the year.
Cal State Dominguez Hills will close out the
regular season schedule with a home game on Saturday against Cal
State L.A. The game time has been moved up to a 3 PM kick-off.
