CARSON, Calif.--Victor Guerrero's (Santa Ana/Century HS) penalty shot at 84:27 gave Cal State Dominguez Hills a come-from-behind 3-2 victory over Cal State L.A. in the Toros' regular-season finale on Saturday afternoon at Toro Field in California Collegiate Athletic Association action.

Guerrero's goal, which ties him with Head Coach Joe Flanagan for the most points in CSUDH soccer history, lifts the No. 4-ranked Toros to 17-1-2 and 11-1-2 in CCAA play. CSULA ends its season at 7-9-3 overall and 4-8-3 in conference play.

Francisco Corona (Compton/Compton HS) put CSUDH up, 1-0, just two minutes into the game. Corona took a long pass over the defense from Jeff Kunze (Huntington Beach/Edison HS) and chipped his shot over Cal State L.A. drawn out keeper Ricky Gonzalez at 2:16.

The Golden Eagles equalized at 31:57 when Kota Taniyama first beat a Toro defender, and then goalie Javier Barragan (Long Beach/LB Jordan HS) to the far post.

Steve Melanson gave the visitors a 2-1 lead at the 63:03 minute mark. Melanson took a Manuel Maiztegui pass, beat a defender and then the keeper one-on-one, finding the back of the far post netting.

CSULA's lead was short-lived as Eduardo Serrano (Toluca, Mexico) knotted the score at 72:22. Guerrero juked two defenders at the end line and crossed a pass inside the box. CSULA keeper Gonzalez got a hand on it and deflected it to Serrano, who blasted his shot from the doorstep to the near post for the 11th goal of the year.

With just over five minutes remaining in regulation, Cal State Dominguez Hills took the lead on a penalty kick. Forward Mikkael Hernholm (La Verne/Bonita HS) was dragged down from behind by two Golden Eagle defenders setting up the PK. Guerrero lined up his shot and sent CSULA goalie Gonzalez the wrong way, converting his fifth penalty shot of the year.

Barragan made two saves for the Toros to earn the win while Gonzalez took the loss for Cal State L.A., making four saves on the day.

CSUDH now looks forward to next weekend when they host the CCAA Men's and Women's Soccer Championships on November 7-9. Four semifinal games will take place on Friday with the finals held on Sunday. Check The Toros Online web site for participating teams, seedings and start times on Monday.
