CARSON, Calif. - The Cal State Dominguez Hills men's soccer team was denied a chance at a fifth-consecutive CCAA Championship as the UC San Diego Tritons upset the Toros 2-1 in the second semifinal of the 2003 California Collegiate Athletic Association Men's Soccer Championship Friday night at Toro Field . CSUDH now stands at 17-2-2, while UC San Diego improves to 11-5-1.

Cal State Dominguez Hills opened the scoring with just under four minutes remaining in the first half as senior Eddie Gonzales-Pinto (Torrance, CA/North Torrance HS) scored on an assist from Jaret Minami (Torrance, CA/West Torrance HS). UC San Diego, however, answered 84 seconds later when Jon Krupansky converted a CSUDH defensive miscue inside the penalty box.

UCSD's Tiago Venturi broke the 1-1 tie in the 64th minute when he took a through ball from Matthew Davey that glanced off a CSUDH defender and beat Toro goalkeeper Javier Barragan (Long Beach, CA/Cal State L.A.) to the far post.

The Toros would continue to pressure the Tritons, outshooting UCSD 22-9 in the contest, but were unable to convert their chances in the late going. UCSD goalkeeper Jeremy Cookson made eight saves, including two from point-blank range late, to preserve the win.
