Chino, CA -- Cal State Dominguez Hills juniors
Alejandra Contreras (El Monte, CA/Mt. SAC) and Jenny
Buncio (Carson, CA/West Torrance) posted respective 19th- and
26th-place finishes at the 2003 NCAA Division II Western Regional
Cross Country Championships this morning at Prado Park in Chino,
CA, leading the Toros to an overall eighth-place finish to close
their 2003 cross country season.

Contreras, an El Monte native, finished the 6K
race in a time of 23:16.1, posting the 11th-best finish amongst
all CCAA runners. Buncio finished her season in 26th place,
crossing the finish line in a time of 23:26.5, just over 10
seconds behind her teammate. CSUDH finished fourth amongst all
CCAA schools competing, placing behind overall team champion Chico
State, runner-up UC San Diego and third-place finisher Cal State
Stanislaus.
Both Contreras and Buncio, each an All-CCAA
selection by virtue of a top-15 finish at the CCAA Cross Country
Championships held October 25, ended this morning's race as they
have all season, posting the best two marks amongst CSUDH runners.
Their efforts led an amazing resurgence for the CSUDH cross
country program, as evidenced by the Toros' fifth-place finish at
this year's CCAA Championships, after finishing 10th in 2002.
