CSUDH's Victor Guerrero Named CCAA Men's Soccer MVP
Guerrero leads 15 CSUDH players named to All-CCAA teams
November 10, 2003

CARSON, Calif.- Senior midfielder Victor Guerrero (Santa Ana/Century HS) was named the 2003 California Collegiate Athletic Association Player of the Year, it was announced by the conference office Monday afternoon. Guerrero's honor was one of 15 amongst both the men's and women's teams who were selected to the all-conference squad, including eight from the men's and seven from the women's team.

Guerrero led the Toros to a 17-1-2 regular season record, including an 11-1-2 mark in CCAA play. He scored seven goals over the course of the season, four of which were game-winners. Guerrero also led the CCAA with 14 assists over 20 games. Just last week, Guerrero tied the CSUDH all-time career scoring record with 89 points, tying Head Coach Joe Flanagan. As the Far West Regional kicks off this weekend, hosted by Cal State Dominguez Hills, he will become just the second player in school history to make four NCAA postseason appearances during his career.

On the men's side, CSUDH led all teams with eight players honored including four to the All-CCAA First-Team. The four First-Team selections include Guerrero, junior defender Nathan Reeves (Lakewood/Lakewood HS), sophomore forward Francisco Corona (Compton/Compton HS) and senior forward Eduardo Serrano (Toluca, Mexico). Named to the All-CCAA Second-Team are senior goalkeeper Javier Barragan (Long Beach/LB Jordan HS), junior midfielder Rick Cobb (Downey/Warren HS) and senior midfielder Eddie Gonzales-Pinto (Torrance/N. Torrance HS). Freshman defender Jose Alvarado (San Diego/Chula Vista HS) earned All-CCAA Honorable Mention honors.

Seven Cal State Dominguez Hills women's players garnered honors, including senior forward Tanya Wilson (Palm Springs/Palm Springs HS) and junior defender Sarah Gibson (La Habra/Sonora HS), who were named to the All-CCAA First-Team. Sophomore defender Elizabeth Arreola (Redondo Beach/Redondo Union HS) was selected to the Second-Team All-CCAA squad, while senior goalkeeper Alba Garcia (Chino/Don Lugo HS), senior defender Chantel Eastwood (Lakewood/Mayfair HS), junior midfielder Kristen Walsh (Lakewood/Mayfair HS) and senior midfielder Sheila Cook (Torrance/W. Torrance HS) earned Honorable Mention honors.
