senior Antoine Griffin (Long Beach, CA/CS Monterey Bay) posted 16
points to lead three Toros in double-figure scoring, but host
Dominican University boasted five players with double-digit
points, including Trey Putnam's game-high 18 points, to take an
82-68 decision over CSUDH Monday night in the Conlan Center.
Cal State Dominguez Hills drops to 1-3 overall,
while Dominican improves to 5-4.
Dominican made 15 of its 29 shots in the first
half, including 6-for-13 from behind the three-point line, to
claim a 39-24 halftime lead. During that 20-minute stretch, the
Toros made only 10 of their 34 attempts, missing all six shots
from behind the arc.
After intermission, CSUDH got its game on track
as it outshot Dominican 48.1% to 46.0%, but could not reduce the
15-point first-half deficit, eventually falling by the same
margin.
Griffin led the Toros with 16 points, nailing a
perfect 4-for-4 from the charity stripe. Junior forward Eric
Crookshank (Vallejo, CA/Chabot College) added 14 points, sinking
6-for-7 from the free throw line, while senior Geovanny Aispuro
(Long Beach, CA/Cerritos CC) poured in 13 points, hititng the sole
Toro three-pointer on the evening.
Cal State Dominguez Hills takes on
crosstown-rival Cal State L.A. in their next two games, first
traveling to CSULA on Saturday, December 6, before hosting the
Golden Eagles in the Torodome on Saturday, December 20. Tipoff for
both contests is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
