December 1, 2003

San Rafael, CA -- Cal State Dominguez Hills senior Antoine Griffin (Long Beach, CA/CS Monterey Bay) posted 16 points to lead three Toros in double-figure scoring, but host Dominican University boasted five players with double-digit points, including Trey Putnam's game-high 18 points, to take an 82-68 decision over CSUDH Monday night in the Conlan Center.

Cal State Dominguez Hills drops to 1-3 overall, while Dominican improves to 5-4.

Dominican made 15 of its 29 shots in the first half, including 6-for-13 from behind the three-point line, to claim a 39-24 halftime lead. During that 20-minute stretch, the Toros made only 10 of their 34 attempts, missing all six shots from behind the arc.

After intermission, CSUDH got its game on track as it outshot Dominican 48.1% to 46.0%, but could not reduce the 15-point first-half deficit, eventually falling by the same margin.

Griffin led the Toros with 16 points, nailing a perfect 4-for-4 from the charity stripe. Junior forward Eric Crookshank (Vallejo, CA/Chabot College) added 14 points, sinking 6-for-7 from the free throw line, while senior Geovanny Aispuro (Long Beach, CA/Cerritos CC) poured in 13 points, hititng the sole Toro three-pointer on the evening.

Cal State Dominguez Hills takes on crosstown-rival Cal State L.A. in their next two games, first traveling to CSULA on Saturday, December 6, before hosting the Golden Eagles in the Torodome on Saturday, December 20. Tipoff for both contests is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
