CARSON, Calif.--Cal State Dominguez Hills men's
soccer midfielder Victor Guerrero (Santa Ana, CA/Century HS),
along with defender Nathan Reeves (Lakewood, CA/Lakewood HS) and
forwards Eduardo Serrano (Toluca, Mexico) and Francisco Corona
(Compton, CA/Compton HS) have been named to the NCAA Division II
First-Team All-West Regional squad, it was announced by the NSCAA
All-West Regional Committee.
Guerrero,
a senior from Santa Ana, CA, was second on the team with 28 points
on seven goals while leading the California Collegiate Athletic
Association (CCAA) with 14 assists. The 6'0" midfielder was
named the 2003 CCAA Player of the Year after playing in all 22
games for the Toros this year. Earlier in the season, Guerrero
tied the CSUDH all-time scoring record (89 pts.) held by current
Head Coach Joe Flanagan. Guerrero is one of two NCAA Division II
players who was invited to the MLS Player Combine held at the Home
Depot Center in January.
Reeves,
a 5'10" junior from Lakewood, CA, led the top-ranked Toro
defense that only allowed 18 goals all season. Despite only
playing in 14 games, Reeves earned First-Team All-CCAA honors in
2003.
Serrano,
a 6'1" senior from Toluca, Mexico, led the Toros and the CCAA
with five game-winning goals on the season. He tied for second on
the team with 28 points on 11 goals and six assists. Serrano
finished among the league leaders in goals (3rd), points (5th),
goals per game (6th) and assists (7th). Serrano started all 22
games for the Toros en route to earning his third All-America
honor during his illustrious collegiate career.
Corona,
a sophomore from Compton, CA, made his presence felt during his
first year in a CSUDH uniform. Corona led the Toros in scoring
with 29 points, with a team-high 13 goals while assisting on three
others. A First-Team All-CCAA selection this year, Corona finished
among the conference leaders in goals (2nd), goals per game (2nd),
points (4th) and points per game (5th).
The Toros ended the year 17-3-2 and 11-1-2 in
CCAA play, falling to CCAA-rival Chico State in the NCAA II Far
West Regional Championship game. This year marked the
fourth-consecutive season CSUDH has advanced to the NCAA playoffs.
