CARSON, Calif.--Cal State Dominguez Hills men's
soccer midfielder Victor Guerrero (Santa Ana, CA/Century HS) and
forward Eduardo Serrano (Toluca, Mexico) have been named to the
2003 NCAA II NSCAA/adidas All-America Team it was announced by the
National Soccer Coaches Association of America.
Guerrero, a senior from Santa Ana, CA, earned
First-Team All-America honors. He was second on the Toros team
with 28 points on seven goals while leading the California
Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) with 14 assists. The 6'0"
midfielder was named the 2003 CCAA Player of the Year after
playing in all 22 games for CSUDH this year. Earlier in the
season, Guerrero tied the CSUDH all-time scoring record (89 pts.)
held by current Head Coach Joe Flanagan. Guerrero is one of two
NCAA Division II players who was invited to the MLS Player Combine
held at the Home Depot Center in January.
Serrano, a 6'1" senior from Toluca,
Mexico, earned Second-Team All-America honors. This marks the
third All-America selection for Serrano. He led the Toros and the
CCAA with five game-winning goals on the season. Serrano tied for
second on the team with 28 points on 11 goals and six assists. He
finished among the league leaders in goals (3rd), points (5th),
goals per game (6th) and assists (7th). Serrano started all 22
games for the Toros en route to earning his third All-America
honor during his illustrious collegiate career.
"I am happy and proud of both
players," said Head Coach Joe Flanagan. "Victor
(Guerrero) and Lalo (Serrano) are two of the most skilled players
I have ever coached. It has been a great honor to have them
associated with the Toro program."
The Toros ended the year 17-3-2 and 11-1-2 in
CCAA play, falling to CCAA-rival Chico State in the NCAA II Far
West Regional Championship game. This year marked the
fourth-consecutive season CSUDH has advanced to the NCAA playoffs.
