Complete Box Score

Carson, CA -- Cal State Dominguez Hills senior Geovanny Aispuro (Long Beach, CA/Cerritos JC) scored a career-high 17 points, the third-straight game in which he's achieved a career-best mark, as the Toros took a convincing 78-58 conference victory over visiting Grand Canyon Friday night at the Torodome.

CSUDH improves to 5-3, 3-0 CCAA, while GCU falls to 2-6, 1-2 CCAA. The 3-0 start marks the first time since the 1980-81 season that the Toros have begun the conference with three wins, the same year CSUDH won its first CCAA Championship.

The Toros took a quick 11-4 advantage to begin the game, bolstered by Aispuro's 12 points in the first 20-minute frame. CSUDH continued to put the pressure on the visitors, increasing its lead to 26-13 on a layup by Rodney Terrell (San Jose, CA/San Jose CC). The Antelopes would rally late in the half and cut the deficit to 11, but the Toros would use six points each by Eric Crookshank (Vallejo, CA/Chabot JC) and Ryan Meilleur (Lakewood, CA/Artesia HS) to post a commanding 40-24 lead entering intermission.

The second half was more of the same as the Toros increased their lead to 44-26 on a Meilleur jumper at the 18:31 mark. An Antelope run would decrease the Toro lead to 49-27, but a Crookshank jumper at 15:26 pushed CSUDH's lead back to 14, and consecutive baskets by Lamar Lawrence (Hawthorne, CA/Pasadena CC) and Antoine Griffin (Long Beach, CA/CS Monterey Bay) gave the Toros an insurmountable 55-37 cushion. A Lawrence layup with :29 left gave the Toros their largest advantage at 78-56, securing the Toros' 78-58 win.

Crookshank added 14 points, including four monstrous dunks, while Griffin's 11 and Meilleur's 10 points rounded out the four Toros in double-figure scoring. Griffin also dished a game-high seven assists while Crookshank contributed with eight boards on the evening.

Bryan Lee scored 15 points to lead the Antelopes while Mike Daye added 10 in the loss.

The Toros host UC San Diego Saturday night to close the first full weekend of conference play, with tipoff scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. start in the Torodome. The game will be webcasted live via the Internet by Waldcast Radio Sports (WRS), with the link available by clicking here.
