Complete Box Score

Carson, CA -- Cal State Dominguez Hills sophomore Zipporah Chase (Los Angeles, CA/Carson HS) tallied a double-double of 16 points and 16 boards, the sixth-consecutive game in which the Los Angeles native has accomplished this feat, but visiting GCU used an 11-5 scoring total in the second overtime to take the CCAA Conference contest 69-63 Friday night at the Torodome.

CSUDH falls to 6-2, 2-1 CCAA, while GCU improves to 5-3, 2-1 CCAA.

The Toros sprinted to a healthy 12-3 lead with just under six minutes elapsed to open the game, thanks to three-pointers by both Tameka Blue (Watsonville, CA/Santa Cruz HS) and Lindsay Peloza (Alisa Viejo, CA/Saddleback JC). GCU would mount a comeback, however, riding eight first-half points by Kelly McRee to whittle the Toro lead to 29-23 entering the half.

After intermission, the Toros regained their momentum, boosting their lead to 37-27 on a Chase jumper at the 16:48 mark. The visiting Antelopes, however, would re-enact their first-half comeback as a Jennifer Cobb jumper brought GCU to within one at 42-41. A pair of ensuing McRee free throws would give the Antelopes their first lead since 3-2 in the game's opening minutes, but consecutive three-pointers by Crystal Maciel (Los Angeles, CA/Los Angeles CC) and Monique Marquez (Rialto, CA/Eisenhower HS) would reclaim the lead for the Toros at 48-43 at the 4:35 mark. GCU would again battle, outscoring the Toros 10-5 to send the game into overtime.

After both teams scored five points in the first overtime, GCU took control in the next five-minute frame. Riding free throws by Lindsay Lawson and Erin Yiakos, the Antelopes took a commanding 67-60 lead with 1:11 left, withstanding a final Toro run to take the contest 69-63.

Peloza added 13 points while Maciel contributed 10 in the loss. Blue and Marquez each shared game-high honors in assists with seven, while Chase added four steals to her statline.

GCU's Cobb tallied a game-high 19 points to lead four Antelopes in double-figure scoring, including Denica Davis' 15, McRee's 14 and Yiakos' 13 points, while McRee's 14 rebounds led GCU.

The Toros made only 1-of-6 free throws in the overtime periods while GCU sank 6-of-9, giving them the victory.

Cal State Dominguez Hills hosts UC San Diego on Saturday night to complete the first full weekend of conference play. Tipoff is scheduled for a 5:30 p.m. start.-
