SAN FRANCISCO, Calif.--Sophomore Zipporah Chase
poured in a career-high 28 points and completed the double-double
with a game-high 17 boards, but it wasn't enough as San Francisco
State pulled out a 69-62 victory in California Collegiate Athletic
Association Friday night.
The loss is the third in a row for the Toros
who now drop to 6-4 overall and 2-3 in league play. San Francisco
State is now 5-5 and 1-4.
The Toros held a 21-18 advantage with just over
six points remaining in the first half. However, used a 17-5 run
to close out the half and take a 35-26 lead into the break.
CSUDH never got closer than six points in the
second half as the Gators built leads as much as 17 points twice.
Chase cut it to 64-58 with 1:50 remaining on an offensive rebound
and put back. However, the Toros went 0-5 in their next five
possessions and SFSU converted their free throws to earn the win
at home.
Chase finished 10-15 from the field and 8-10
from the free throw line for 28 points. She also grabbed 17 boards
in the losing cause. No other CSUDH player was in double-figures
offensively.
For San Francisco State, Chrissy Ridenour
poured in a team-best 23 points while Bianca Rayford pulled down a
team-high nine boards off the bench.
The Toros will try to snap its three-game slide
tomorrow night travelling to Sonoma State. First tip is set for
5:30 p.m.
