Sonoma State jetted to an early first half
lead, then held on in the second to defeat Cal State Dominguez
Hills 63-57 on Saturday night at Seawolf Gym. The Seawolves used a
balanced scoring attack, led by Lindsay King's 13 points to win
their third straight and stay tied for the conference lead at 5-1
(8-3 overall). Cal State Dominguez Hills falls to 6-5, 2-4 CCAA.
The Seawolves used a 15-3 run toward the end of
the first half to open up a 20-point lead before heading into the
half with a comfortable 43-28 advantage. It was the second
straight night the Seawolves dominated their opponents in the
first half. It was also the second straight night an opponent
clawed their way back in the final twenty.
Behind 13 points from Zipporah Chase, the Toros
staged a comeback in the second half, cutting the lead to three
with just 1:27 left. After a jumper by Shannon Taylor, the
Seawolves converted a pair of free throws to give them a
seven-point advantage with 0:35 remaining. CSDH missed three shots
in the final half minute, converting on just a free throw to lose
by six.
Lindsay King continued her hot shooting from
behind the arc. The 6'0" senior from Huntington Beach was
three-for-three from three-point territory to improve to 9-for-15
on the year, with eight of those coming in the last three games.
Lacey Campbell had nine rebounds and Shannon Taylor added ten
points and seven boards for the Seawolves.
Chase's 13 points and eight rebounds were team
highs for CSUDH. Tameka Blue had a game-high seven assists.
The Toros return to action next weekend when
they host Cal State Bakersfield (Friday) and Cal State Stanislaus
(Saturday).
