CARSON, Calif.--Joe Gevas hit a two-run
walk-off home run deep over the rightfield wall to give the CSUDH
alumni a thrilling 7-5 win over the 2004 Cal State Dominguez Hills
Toros. The blast was Gevas' second home run of the game.
The current CSUDH jumped out to a quick 3-0
lead in the first four innings, but the alum's tied the game in
the fifth with three runs, two of them coming off the bat of
former great Marc Gutfeld who deposited a two-run blast down the
left field line to knot the score, 3-3.
Gevas gave the alums a 4-3 lead with his first
homer of the day, a deep shot over the right-center field fence in
the seventh inning. But the 2004 Toros came right back in the top
of the eighth taking the lead 5-4 with hits from Daniel Pilimai,
Joey Caira and a sacrifice fly from Ricky Eda.
The alums sent the game into extra-innings on
an RBI groundout from Steve Hindman in the bottom of the ninth.
That set up Gevas' heroics in the bottom of the tenth.
The 2004 Toros are back in action on Tuesday
when they host Concordia University (CA) at Toro Field. First
pitch is set for 2 PM.
