ROHNERT PARK, Calif.--Sonoma State dealt the
Cal State Dominguez Hills baseball team a 16-3 loss in both teams
California Collegiate Athletic Association conference opener
Friday afternoon at Seawolf Field in Rohnert Park, CA.
The loss drops the Toros to 3-5 overall and 0-1
in league play while Sonoma State is now 6-2 and 1-0.
The game was suspended in the bottom of the
eight inning, to be resumed Saturday. Game completeion note:
SSU went on to score two more runs in the eighth to account
for a final score of 18-3. (Recap below does not include final
innings, but box score reflects complete game.)
The Seawolves took a 7-2 lead into the sixth
when they broke the game wide open with seven runs in the bottom
of the inning. CSUDH would push across a run in the top of the
seventh on a groundout RBI from Chris Martinez. SSU would then
plate two more in the bottom of the seventh.
SS Houston Hernandez was the lone Toro player
with multiple hits finishing 2-for-3 at the plate. RF Zac Cort and
OF Jason Flores each had RBI singles.
CSUDH starter Ryan Owen (1-1) took the loss
going the first 5.0 innings allowing eight runs, six earned, on
eight hits, five walks and struck out five. Reliever Trevor Renck
was charged with five runs in just a 1/3 of an inning on two hits
and three walks. In all, Toro pitchers allowed 10 free passes on
the day.
The Toros and Sonoma State continue the
four-game series tomorrow with a twinbill beginning at noon.
