Jeff Bonds led all scorers with 21 points, propelling the Broncos
to a 71-62 victory on Friday night at the Torodome.

improves to 15-5, 11-4 CCAA.
The visiting Broncos stormed to a 22-5 lead in
the game's first eight minutes of action. The Toros would respond,
scoring 12-consecutive points over the next five minutes to narrow
the gap to 22-17 with 8:31 remaining behind two three-pointers by
Antoine Griffin (Long Beach, CA/Millikan HS) and one three-ball by
Lankster.
Cal Poly Pomona, however, led by Bonds' 11
first-half points, would take a 34-27 lead entering the locker
room.
Cal State Dominguez Hills would use a Rodney
Terrell (San Jose, CA/Gunderson HS) jumper to get within striking
range at 34-29 to open the second half, but a David Sybesma jumper
and a three-pointer by Hervey Malone II would boost the Bronco
advantage back to double figures at 44-32, deflating the Toro
momentum.
Sybesma would continue to connect, scoring
eight of his 10 points after intermission to keep the Bronco lead
in double digits. A Bonds layup with 4:59 left in the contest gave
the Broncos their biggest lead at 69-46, but the Toros used
five-consecutive buckets by Lankster and Geovanny Aispuro (Long
Beach, CA/LB Jordan HS) to outscore CPP 14-2 over the final five
minutes, bringing CSUDH to within 11 at 71-60.
A Jamel Gay (Carson, CA/Artesia HS) jumper with
:39 would finish the scoring as the Broncos would leave the
Torodome with a 71-62 victory.
Aispuro contributed 10 points to round out the
Toros' double-figure scorers, while CPP's Jonathan Williams' 11
and Sybesma's 10 points rounded out the CPP players who scored at
least 10 points.
Crookshank tied Bonds with a game-high nine
boards, while Griffin's five assists was good for game high.
The Broncos used a second-half 53.6% to 44.8%
shooting advantage from the floor to seal the victory.
