Carson, CA -- Cal State Dominguez Hills senior
Malik Harris (Oakland, CA/Berkeley HS) garnered a team-high 14
points while junior Eric Crookshank (Vallejo, CA/Hogan HS) tallied
the game's sole double-double, but No. 9-ranked Cal State San
Bernardino used a game-high 20 points from Curtis Williams off the
bench to cruise to a 77-56 win on Saturday night at the Torodome.
CSUDH falls to 6-15, 4-12 CCAA, while the
Coyotes improve to 20-1, 16-0 CCAA.
The Toros started strong, taking a quick 6-3
lead on the second of two jumpers by Harris at the 17:26 mark.
CSUSB would regroup, riding Williams' nine and Eric Swan's eight
first-half points to take the lead at 9-6, increasing their margin
to a 27-17 advantage with 7:45 left in the first half.
The Coyotes would boost their lead to as much
as 16, but a three-pointer by Geovanny Aispuro (Long Beach, CA/LB
Jordan HS) near the end of the first half would cut into the
deficit, sending the Toros into intermission trailing 37-24.
CSUSB began the second half strong, jumping out
to a 44-27 advantage on a three-pointer by Eric Swan. Behind two
jumpers by Jamel Gay (Carson, CA/Artesia HS), the Toros would claw
back to within single digits at 50-41, but the Coyotes would use a
25-8 scoring run over the next eight minutes to take a 75-48 lead
and put the game away.
Three-pointers by Aispuro and Harris would get
the Toros to within 20 points, but a dunk by CSUSB's Mike Ross put
an exclamation point on the Coyotes' victory, sending them home
with a 77-56 victory.
Charles Logan (Moreno Valley, CA/Valley View
HS) contributed 13 points on 5-of-9 shooting, while Crookshank's
11 points rounded out the three Toros in double-figure scoring.
Crookshank's 12 boards topped all players,
gathering six on each end of the floor.
CSUSB's Jonathan Levy chipped in 13 points,
followed by Swan's 11 points, while T.K. Reed dished a game-high
12 assists in the Coyote victory.
As a team, CSUSB outshot CSUDH 50.8% to 32.8%
from the floor.
The Toros are on the road consecutive weekends,
at Cal State Stanislaus / Cal State Bakersfield and UC San Diego /
Grand Canyon, before returning home the weekend of March 5-6 to
host Sonoma State / San Francisco State in the final games of the
