BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Five Cal State
Bakersfield Roadrunners scored in double figures in an 89-74 win
over the Cal State Dominguez Hills men's basketball team Saturday
night at Centennial Garden in Bakersfield.
CSUB improved to 18-5 and 14-4 in the CCAA. The
Toros fall to 6-17 and 4-14.
CSUB blitzed the Toros on the boards to the
tune of a 45-25 rebounding edge. The 'Runners scored 20 second
chance points thanks to 19 offensive rebounds. Forwards Dwayne
Brown and Fred Nichols each had five offensive boards, helping
them lead CSUB with 15 and 14 points respectively.
The game was close early, with Dominguez Hills
actually forging a 14-10 lead six minutes into the first half. But
a Martin Rajniak three-pointer gave CSUB the lead right back and a
quick 14-5 run got the 'Runner advantage to 10 points at 31-21.
CSUB's lead grew to 44-28 at the half. An Andre
Hardwick dunk got the lead to 21 points less than two minutes into
the second half and the Toros never got close again.
The lead grew as large as 87-60 with five
minutes to play. Toro guard Antoine Griffin scored 11 of his
game-high 19 points in the last seven minutes to help make the
final a bit more respectable.
Nichols added 12 rebounds to his 14 points to
record his seventh double-double of the season. He also collected
five steals on the night. Junior swingman Curtis Washington scored
14 points, Rajniak scored 12 and Hardwick finished with 10 to
complete the 'Runner quintet in double figures.
Malik Harris and Saul Lankster scored 13 points
and Lamar Lawrence had 10 to lead the Toros. Michael Roche had a
team-high six rebounds.
Dominguez Hills continues a four-game road trip
at UC San Diego Friday night. CSUB returns to action Friday night
at San Francisco State.
