Bakersfield, CA -- Cal State Dominguez Hills'
Bryan Newman finished day two of the 2004 Family Motors
Invitational with a 4-under par 212, tying him with four others in
fifth place as the season-opening Invitational concluded this
afternoon. As a team, the Toros shot 37 strokes over par for their
three-day total of 901, tying with Colorado Springs Colorado for
14th place overall.
Cal State Bakersfield, the tournament's host,
won the team event with a score of 841.
For the Toros, Newman finished just five
strokes behind UC San Diego's Bian Duckworth, who stormed back
from 15th place to take the title. Duckworth shot a 7-under 65 on
the final day to claim the crown by two strokes.
Newman shot a 1-under 71 this afternoon for his
212 total, followed by fellow Toros Dave Linsangan's (Paramount,
CA/Carson HS) 223 (T-49th), Kyle Wilson's 231 (T-73rd), Jason
Olguin's 238 (T-80th) and Chris Whitaker's (Inglewood,
CA/Inglewood HS) 247 (86th).
The Toros next compete at the San Marcos
Tournament on March 1-2.
