Cal State Dominguez Hills ends its regular
season at 8-19, 6-16 CCAA, while the SFSU concludes its season at
10-16, 8-14 CCAA.
The visitors jumped out quickly, taking a 7-2
lead with 2:47 elapsed in the opening frame. The Toros would keep
the Gators in striking distance, using Lankster's 11 points on
4-for-4 shooting from the field in the first 20 minutes of play.
Behind a Michael Roche (Lakewood, CA/LB Poly
HS) jumper with just less than two minutes remaining in the first
half, CSUDH would take its first lead of the ballgame at 24-22,
increasing it to seven points on four Lankster points and two by
Roche. A Chris Tabarez jumper as time expired cut into CSUDH's
lead, sending the Gators into the locker room trailing 29-24.
CSUDH would seize momentum to begin the second
half, extending its lead to seven on a Charles Logan (Moreno
Valley, CA/Valley View HS) jumper at the 18:01 mark. The Toros
would keep the Gators at arm's length over the next 10 minutes,
until a Jamar Collins jumper would cut the SFSU deficit to 46-45
with 9:16 left in regulation. The Gators would take their first
lead of the second half on a Collins layup, but the Toros would
quickly rebound as Ryan Meilleur (Lakewood, CA/Artesia HS) would
sink two free throws at with just under three minutes left to give
CSUDH the lead for good.
Stellar free throw shooting by the Toros would
seal the victory, as six-consecutive foul shots by Griffin with
under one minute remaining would bring CSUDH's lead to 64-56.
After two free throws by SFSU's Oscar Edwards would narrow the
margin to six, a buzzer-beating three-pointer by senior Malik
Harris (Oakland, CA/Berkeley HS) fittingly would conclude the
scoring as the Toros sent six seniors off with a victory in their
final game in Cardinal Red and Gold.
Roche's 12 and Harris' 11 points rounded out
the four Toros who scored in double digits, while Logan and Roche
shared team-high honors with seven boards apiece.
SFSU's Mychal Lynch tallied game-high honors
with 19 points, while Tabarez's 10 points and game-high 13 boards
gave the Gator the only double-double on the evening.
CSUDH ends its season increasing both its
overall and conference win totals by two games each.
