CHICO - CSU Dominguez Hills' pitching proved to
be too much for the Chico State softball team. The Wildcats were
shutout twice by the Toros Friday, 6-0 and 4-0, on their home
diamond.
In game one, the Wildcats managed just four
hits off Valerie Long who improved her record to a perfect 5-0.
She struck out five and walked three. Chico's Katie Stokx (L, 3-7)
struggled with her control, walking nine batters in three innings
of work, causing her to give up four runs on just two hits.
Stokx and Allison Shirley each had a double in
the game for the Wildcats.
The Toros scored solo runs in the first two
frames and tacked on two more in the fourth and seventh innings.
Leadoff hitter Natalie Sharp and Araceli Martinez each had two
hits and Lisa Grove drove in two runs with her one hit of the
game.
In the nightcap, Grove (W, 5-3) moved from
first base to pitcher and recorded her third shutout of the
season. She also helped herself at the plate, going 2-for-2 at the
plate, including a RBI single in the first and a solo home run
down the left field line to lead off the sixth.
The Toro's Crystal Dingman was the only other
player with multiple hits in the game She went 3-for-4 with a RBI
and a run scored. Kristin Paese (L, 6-6) gave up four runs on
seven hits and struck out four.
The Wildcats (9-15, 5-13 CCAA) have now dropped
six straight, but will look to get back on track tomorrow when
they host Cal State San Bernardino at noon. Dominguez Hills
improved to 15-9-2 overall, 10-9 in conference play.
