DAVIS, Calif. --- Catcher Megan Turman's homer sealed UC Davis' 3-1 win over Cal State Dominguez Hills in the nightcap of their California Collegiate Athletic Association softball doubleheader at La Rue Field on Saturday after the Aggies won the opener, 2-0, behind Amy Rosson's four-hit shutout.

UC Davis improved to 17-9 overall and 14-6 in the CCAA while the Toros dropped to 15-11-2 overall and 10-11-1 in conference action. The Aggies' had a season-high 383 fans in attendance during the twinbill.

Turman's home run came in the bottom of the sixth inning against Cal State Dominguez Hills starter Nina Distefano who pitched a two-hitter for the Toros. Distefano retired the first 12 batters she faced before walking Jenna Cresta to lead off the fifth. The only other hit she allowed besides Turman's homer was a bunt single to third baseman Nikki Sheldon just after Cresta's walk.

A sacrifice bunt from Michelle Malbon moved Cresta and Sheldon up to third and second, respectively, before a squeeze bunt from Sue Yale towards third was good enough to score Cresta. Breanna Adame's infield grounder to the right side scored Sheldon with the second run.

Two walks and a hit lby Danielle Proctor oaded the bases with one out in the sixth for the Toros, who scored when Kacey Sevier couldn't handle Natalie Sharp's grounder to second with two outs. However, pitcher Lindsay Tognetti - who relieved starter Rachel Kelly in the second inning - got Crystal Dingham to ground out to Sevier to end the threat.

Turman then slammed her first home run of the season to left in the bottom of the inning as UC Davis regained the two-run lead. Tognetti did the rest, retiring the side in the seventh for the win. She went 5-2/3 innings, allowing just three hits and three walks while striking out four and improving her record to 3-1.

Distefano, who dropped to 4-6, had three strikeouts and just one walk in her six innings of strong work for the Toros.

A pitcher's duel was the order of the game in the opener as Rosson improved to 11-2 with her second win of the weekend. The senior from Los Angeles went the distance, giving up just four hits, striking out six and walking only one. Cal State Dominguez Hills had runners in scoring position three times against Rosson, including the sixth when they had Dingham at third with one out. But Rosson got Proctor on a liner right back to the pitching circle and then struck out first baseman Lisa Grove.

UC Davis could manage just three hits against Toros starter Kim O'Hanian, who took the hard-luck loss and dropped to 1-2. Malbon, Yale and Lindsey Roark each had hits for the Aggies, who scored the game's only two runs when left-fielder Lori Moreno couldn't hang on to Emily Hetzner's flyball with two outs and the bases loaded in the third inning. Roark and Yale both scored on the play.

O'Hanian finished with three strikeouts and a walk. Dingham had two hits while Sharp and Jenny Funk each had one.

"These were big wins," said UC Davis coach Kathy DeYoung. "We played well all day and we made big plays when we needed to. Amy did a great job in the first game and Lindsay did a good job to come in and shut them down in the second.
"Megan's home run gave us some insurance and some breathing room," she added. "It was a good day."

UC Davis plays its third consecutive home date when the Aggies host the Minnesota Golden Gophers on Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. at La Rue Field.
