Cindy Perry Earns Softball All-America Honors
Victorville native led Toros to fourth-consecutive 30-win season and school's first NCAA postseason victory in becoming second Toro to earn softball All-America honor
May 13, 2004

Altamonte Springs, FL -- Cal State Dominguez Hills sophomore Cindy Perry (Victorville, CA/Silverado HS) was named to the third-team NCAA Division II All-America team, it was announced by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA). The three All-America teams were selected by NCAA Division II head coaches representing each region.

Cal State Dominguez Hills sophomore Cindy Perry was named to the NCAA Division II All-America third team.

Perry, an honorable mention All-CCAA selection last season, established five CSUDH single-season records in 2004, including those for most hits (70), most runs scored (41), most stolen bases (36), most consecutive stolen bases (23) and most stolen bases in a single game (4). In addition, Perry led the Toros in batting average (.380), on-base % (.421), total plate appearances (204) and at bats (184) as the sophomore speedster batted leadoff in 77% of the Toros' games this season.

The Victorville native boasted 23 multiple-hit games, including a season-high 4-for-4 performance versus UC San Diego on February 27, a season-high five-game hit streak and a fielding percentage of .957, making only eight errors in 184 chances at the "hot corner." She also boasted six multiple-steal games, including a season-high four-steal performance versus Vanguard on March 19.

Earlier this season, Perry also was named a first-team NFCA Division II All-Region selection, as well as to the NCAA Division II West Region All-Tournament Team, following the footsteps of first-team All-American Tammy Quarry, the last Toro to earn softball All-America honors (1983).

Perry led the Toros to 33 wins this season, a second-consecutive NCAA postseason appearance and first NCAA postseason win in school history by virtue of their 7-0 victory over CCAA-foe Cal State Bakersfield as CSUDH won at least 30 games for the fourth-consecutive season.
