Walnut Creek, CA -- Cal State Dominguez Hills
sophomore Cindy Perry (Victorville, CA/Silverado HS) has been
named a first-team All-CCAA softball selection while junior Lisa
Grove (Buena Park, CA/Kennedy HS) was selected to the All-CCAA
second-team, it was announced this afternoon by the California
Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA).
Senior Dani Proctor (La Crescenta, CA/Crescenta
Valley HS) and junior Valerie Long (Stockton, CA/St. Mary's HS)
also were tabbed as honorable mention All-CCAA selections,
rounding out the Toro quartet that led CSUDH to the school's first
ever NCAA softball postseason victory and fourth-consecutive
season with at least 30 wins.
Perry, a third-team All-American, first-team
NFCA Division II All-Region and NCAA DIvision II West Region
All-Tournament selection this season, adds a first-team All-CCAA
honor to last season's honorable mention All-CCAA nod as she
established five CSUDH single-season records in 2004, including
those for most hits (70), most runs scored (41), most stolen bases
(36), most consecutive stolen bases (23) and most stolen bases in
a single game (4).
In addition, Perry led the Toros in batting
average (.380), on-base % (.421), total plate appearances (204)
and at bats (184) as the sophomore speedster batted leadoff in 77%
of the Toros' games this season. The Victorville native boasted 23
multiple-hit games, including a season-high 4-for-4 performance
versus UC San Diego on February 27, a season-high five-game hit
streak and a fielding percentage of .957, making only eight errors
in 184 chances at the "hot corner." She also boasted six
multiple-steal games, including a season-high four-steal
performance versus Vanguard on March 19.
Grove set a CSUDH single-season home run record
this season (5) and tied for most doubles in a season (15), while
helping anchor one of the top pitching rotations in the league.
She posted a 12-7 record, throwing six shutouts with 119.2 innings
pitched, both second best on the squad. Grove earned two CCAA
Pitcher of the Week awards, hurled a no-hitter in her debut in a
Toro uniform and started all 56 games in Cardinal Red & Gold,
one of only two Toros to do so. Offensively, she led the team in
home runs, RBI (26), doubles and slugging percentage (.491), and
was third in batting average (.280) and hits (45).
Proctor, now a three-time All-CCAA selection,
finished second on the team in batting average, at-bats, runs
scored, hits and RBI, and third in doubles, total bases, slugging
and on-base percentages, and stolen bases. She was a fixture at
second base, committing a team-low five errors in 228 chances
amongst regulars in the infield, good for a .978 fielding
percentage. The La Crescenta native boasted three five-game
hitting streaks, had 16 multiple-hit games, six multiple-RBI
contests, was one of only two Toros to start all 56 games and the
only Toro to see action at the second base position.
Long, a second-team NFCA Division II All-Region
and All-Easton Tournament of Champions selection, adds a
second-straight honorable mention All-CCAA honor to her accolades
as she emerged as this year's ace, winning a team-high 14 games,
including her first 11 contests of the season. Long was named the
Wilson CCAA Pitcher of the Week for her performance for the week
of April 5-11, hurling two complete-game victories over then-No.
16-ranked Cal State Bakersfield and Cal State Stanislaus during
which she sported a 2.00 ERA, fanned 15 batters and walked none.
The Stockton native led the Toros in ERA
(1.50), complete games (16), shutouts (8), innings pitched (131.0)
and strikeouts (106) in leading the Toro staff to an overall ERA
of 1.99. She also fanned 10 batters on two occasions, boasting an
impressive strikeout-to-walk ratio of 3.41:1.
In leading CSUDH to 33 wins this season, Perry,
Grove, Proctor and Long guided the Toros to their
second-consecutive NCAA postseason appearance and first NCAA
postseason win in school history by virtue of their 7-0 victory
over CCAA-foe Cal State Bakersfield. |
