Carson, CA -- Cal State Dominguez Hills
recently received its third-consecutive National Consortium for
Academics and Sports Outreach and Community Service Program Honor
Roll Award for its outstanding outreach and community service
program during the 2002-03 academic school year, it was announced
by the NCAS.
The NCAS award was bestowed upon CSUDH for its
commitment in developing leadership in its student-athletes and
caring for their community. It also represents CSUDH's dedication
as an institution committed to demonstrating the ultimate goal of
higher education and to develop young adults as leaders of
tomorrow.
"I am proud of our
student-athletes, coaches, staff and administrators for their
conscious efforts in promoting the concept of 'Communiversity,'"
says CSUDH Athletics Director Ron Prettyman.
"The Athletics Department
understands the importance of giving back to its community and was
involved in well over 100 community service events and activities
during the academic year. We are proud of representing our
University, appreciate this award by the NCAS and look forward to
continuing our 'Communiversity' involvement."
Founded in 1985 with 11 members, the NCAS
recognizes the accomplishments of its now 221 members through an
annual end of the year report. Since its inception, these 221
members have combined to contributed $246 million in tuition and
fees for 23,740 student-athletes to complete their degrees, and
have benefitted well over 11 million young people through over 12
million hours of outreach and community service across the nation.
Cal State Dominguez Hills, by virtue of its
numerous outreach and community service programs spearheaded
through its Athletics staff and coaches, was among the most
outstanding NCAS member institutions, embodying "the true
spirit of helping youth develop to their fullest potential,"
according to NCAS Executive Director Richard Lapchick.
Next year's NCAS National Conference
commemorating the 2003-04 academic school year is slated for
February 2005. |
