Carson, CA -- Cal State Dominguez Hills head
womens basketball coach Van Girard today announced the
signing of freshmen Alana Bailey and Michelle Kribell, both of
whom will begin playing for the Toros in the upcoming 2004-05
season.
In leading John Muir HS to a 21-5 record in
2003-04, Bailey (Altadena, CA/John Muir HS) was named league MVP.
A great leaper, the 5-11 forward averaged 13 points and nine
rebounds per game, tallying three assists and two steals as she
earned All-CIF honors under JMHS head coach Joe Ford.
Academically, the incoming freshman maintained a 3.68 GPA as a
prep.
Kribell (Buena Park, CA/Western HS), a 6-0
forward / center, averaged a double-double of 16 points and 10
rebounds, playing both forward positions as well as in the post.
She shot nearly 50% from the field in leading Western to a
4th-place league finish. With her double-double average and 3.0
GPA, she was named the Orange League MVP, a first-team All-CIF
selection and a scholar-athlete. Additionally, the 2003-04
basketball team captain ran the 800m and 1600m races for the WHS
track and field team.
I look forward to both players making
significant contributions to our program next year, Girard
states.
Alana has great hands and athleticism
while Michelle has a nice face-up game. We graduated only one
senior and have our core nucleus returning, so with the addition
of these freshmen, I expect big things for our program.
