Women's Soccer Shut Out By Seattle Pacific, 1-0
Michelle Sanders early goal holds up for host Falcons
August 28, 2004

SEATTLE, Wash—Seattle Pacific’s Michelle Sanders goal three minutes into the game proved to be the game-winner over visiting Cal State Dominguez Hills Saturday afternoon in non-conference action at Interbay Stadium.

The No. 9 Toros haven’t been able to catch a break to start the ’04 campaign during their trip to the Emerald City, dropping to 0-2-0 to begin the season. The win for Seattle avenges a loss to the Toros in the semifinals of the NCAA West Region Playoffs last year, and is the first win ever against CSUDH in five meetings.

Seattle Pacific, the preseason pick to win the Great Northwest Athletic Conference and ranked No. 22 in the preseason poll, scored the only goal they would need at the 3:01 mark. Sanders made a nice run, taking on two defenders and drilled a close-range shot that CSUDH goalie Mallory Dominguez (San Pedro, CA/Mary Star of the Sea HS) made a nice save on. However, Dominguez couldn’t hold on and Sanders tapped the rebound in to make it 1-0.

The Falcons defense made the lone goal good, holding the Toros to only six shots in the game. Jennifer Hull made four stops to earn the win for the Falcons, while Mallory Dominguez suffers her second loss of the young season after making three saves in goal.

Cal State Dominguez Hills will complete its 3-game road trip in the Great Northwest on Monday with a game against Western Washington. First kick is set for 11:30 AM.
