BELLINGHAM, Wash.(August 30)Nikki
Szlak scored five minutes into the game to give Cal State
Dominguez Hills womens soccer its first win of the young
season, 1-0, over host Western Washington University Monday
afternoon.
The Toros are now 1-2-0 to begin the 2004
campaign, while WWU is now 1-1-0.
Szlak (Long Beach, CA/Los Alamitos HS) took a
short pass inside the box from Amy Livergood (Torrance, CA/N.
Torrance HS), and slipped her shot inside the right post from ten
yards away to give CSUDH all the scoring they would need.
The Toros stingy defense made the goal stand
up, allowing the Vikings to only seven shots the entire game.
The victory is the first in three tries for Cal
State Dominguez Hills, after dropping its first three contests in
the Emerald City. Nhi Tran (Renton, WA/Citrus College) earned the
win in her first start in between the posts making two saves.
Cal State Dominguez Hills will return home to
face Grand Canyon in its home opener on Sunday, September 5 at
Toro Field. First kick is set for 3 PM.
