The win is the third in a row for CSUDH, who
has outscored the opposition 8-1 over that span. The Toros are now
4-2-0 on the season while Grand Canyon is still in search of its
first win and fall to 0-6-1.
Freshman forward Kei Kamara (Lawndale,
CA/Leuzinger HS) opened up the scoring early in the 2nd minute.
Kamara accepted a cross inside the box from Francisco Corona
(Compton, CA/Compton HS) and beat the goalie to the near post.
Corona made it 2-0 in the 19th minute scoring
his fourth goal in the past three games. Corona took a feed inside
the penalty box from Jason Koza (La Habra, CA/La Serna HS) and
one-timed his shot from 10 yards out passed Antelope goalie Byron
Bent.
Then in the 38th minute, Koza scored the final
goal of the game on a beautiful 15-yard blast to the upper near
post. Credit Kamara and Rick Cobb (Downey, CA/Warren HS) with the
assists.
The game was mostly played on Grand Canyon's
defensive side, with CSUDH outshooting the Antelopes 34-6 in the
match. The Toros also held a 13-1 advantage in corner kicks.
All three CSUDH goalies saw action today with
starter Kyle Polak (Huntington Beach, CA/Fountain Valley HS)
getting the win. Austin Anderson (Odessa, TX) and Steve
Merriwether (Redondo Beach, CA/Redondo Union HS) split time in the
second half.
