Complete Box Score

CARSON, Calif.--Lisa Araujo scored two goals-the second on a penalty kick in the second half-to lead visiting Cal Poly Pomona to a 2-1 win over Cal State Dominguez Hills in the California Collegiate Athletic Association conference opener Tuesday afternoon at Toro Field.

The loss snaps a four-game win streak for CSUDH, and fall to 4-3-0 overall and 0-1-0 in CCAA action. Cal Poly Pomona is now 2-4-0 and 1-0-0 in league play.

Freshman forward Corrie Hirokawa (Torrance, CA/N. Torrance HS) put the Toros on the scoreboard early on in the 6th minute of play. Hirokawa accepted a nice pass from the right side from Michelle Sena (San Pedro, CA/San Pedro HS) and one-timed her shot with her back to the goal for her fourth goal of the season.

But six minutes later, the Broncos evened the game when Araujo scored her first goal of the game in the 12th minute. Tia Randolph send a short pass inside the box to Araujo's feet who slipped her shot from six yards out inside the left post.

Hirokawa missed a golden opportunity to give Cal State Dominguez Hills a 2-1 lead going into the break after being awarded a penalty kick. However, Bronco goalie Vanessa Richardson saved the initial shot, then made a brilliant save on the rebound to preserve the tie.

Both teams had several opportunities to take the lead in the second half but were unable to finish. Cal Poly Pomona finally took advantage in the 66th minute, when Araujo was awarded a penalty kick which she converted for the 2-1 final.

The Toros and Broncos were even with 15 shots a piece in the match. Richardson earned the win in goal making six saves, while CSUDH starter Mallory Dominguez (San Pedro, CA/Mary Star of the Sea HS), who also made six saves, took the loss.
