The victory extends the Toros win streak to
five games and now are 6-2-0 overall and a perfect 2-0-0 in league
play. The Otters fall to 1-4-0 and 1-1-0 in conference action.
Corona (Compton, CA/Compton HS) tallied the
game-winner in the 11th minute of action taking a pass at the top
of the box from Kamara (Lawndale, CA/Leuzinger HS) and blasted his
shot to the far post from 10 yards away.
Kamara made it 2-0 in the 27th minute heading
in a beautiful cross from Adrian Szasz (Stroudsburg, PA). Chris
Ocampo (San Diego, CA/Mt. Carmel HS) was credited with the second
assist.
The Toros came out and scored three more
unanswered goals in the second period. Corona connected for his
second goal of the game and seventh of the year in the 47th
minute. Corona took a pass up the middle from Kamara and Rick Cobb
(Downey, CA/Warren HS), beat the Otter goalie who came off his
line and placed his shot to the back of the net for the 3-0 lead.
Not to be outdone, Kamara struck for his
seventh goal of the year in the 61st minute taking a rebound from
a shot off the goalkeeper and rifled his shot to the near lower
post making it 4-0.
Cobb closed out the scoring in the 63rd minute
with his first goal of the season. It was Corona & Kamara both
assisting on this one to account for the final scoreline.
Cal State Dominguez Hills almost spent the
entire afternoon on the Otters end outshooting CSUMB 20-2 in the
match. The Toros have found their stride during this five-game win
streak having outscored opponents 19-1. The defense has been
suffocating as well registering three shutouts in a row and now
have five in the eight games played in 2004.
Toro goalie Kyle Polak (Huntington Beach,
CA/Fountain Valley HS) wasn't tested at all during his 75 minutes
of play. Polak earned the win and is now 6-1-0. Austin Anderson
(Odessa, TX/Permian HS) played the final 15 scoreless minutes off
the bench.
