Sep 22 - The 12th-ranked UC San Diego men's
soccer team registered a 0-0, double overtime tie with Cal State
Dominguez Hills Wednesday night at Triton Soccer Field on the UCSD
campus. The draw pushed the Tritons' record to 3-0-2 overall and
2-0-1 in California Collegiate Athletic Association play while the
Toros watch their record go to 6-2-1 overall and 2-0-1 in league
action.
CSUDH outshot the Tritons on the evening by a
17-7 margin, including a 5-1 differential in the overtime periods.
UC San Diego netminder Edward Ruhland came up big as he played the
second half and overtime periods, making six saves in his 65
minutes of action.
Forward Tiago Venturi was the only UCSD player
to take more than one shot on the night, getting three off,
including a very dangerous play with time running out in the
second half. His breakaway run was stopped by Toros' goalkeeper
Kyle Polak who ended the night with two saves.
Both teams took numerous corner kicks, with Cal
State Dominguez Hills ending up with the advantage in that
department as well, 7-6.
Offsides played a big role in the match as both
teams ended up with three. None were more critical than the one
called in the second overtime that disallowed a CSUDH goal.
