Sep 22 - The UC San Diego women's soccer team
improved to 6-1-0 overall and 2-1-0 in California Collegiate
Athletic Association play with its 1-0 victory over Cal State
Dominguez Hills Wednesday night at Triton Soccer Field.
The loss moves the Toros' record to 5-4-0
overall and 1-2-0 in league action.
Freshman Chelsey Campbell netted the
game-winner in the 81st minute to give the Tritons the victory.
She was able to slip the ball past the CSUDH netminder in the
middle of a very crowded goalie box of a touch from Meira Dinsmore
who picked up her first point of the season with the assist. The
goal was Campbell's second of the season.
Despite the victory the Tritons were outshot on
the evening by a 14-11 margin, but it was UCSD who took seven
shots in the second half, compared to only six from the Toros.
UC San Diego had more dangerous chances all
evening long, taking eight corner kicks, four in each half. The
Toros only took two corners all night long, both of which came in
the first half.
Both netminders played well on the evening as
UCSD's Jamie Lautenschleger made six saves to secure her sixth
shutout of the season. Mallory Dominguez made five saves prior to
allowing the lone goal of the evening.
The Toros next have a home date with Cal State
San Bernardino Saturday, Sept. 25, beginning at 12:30 p.m.
