Box Score
Carson, CA - Senior Rick Cobb's (Downey,
CA/Warren HS) wide open sitter from the top of the box at 79:41
gave the Toros a 3-2 advantage, but a freak 50-yard free kick off
the foot of Cal State Bakersfield's Drew Rea with less than three
minutes remaining somehow found its way over the head of CSUDH
goalkeeper Kyle Polak (Huntington Beach, CA/Fountain Valley HS),
giving the two teams a 3-3 tie at the end of two overtimes.
With the tie, CSUDH moves to 8-2-2, 4-0-2 CCAA,
while CSUB moves to 7-2-2, 3-1-2 CCAA.
After the visitors opened the scoring at 23:24
mark, the Toros' Jason Koza (La Habra, CA/La Serna HS) answered
:35 seconds later, heading his fourth goal of the season past the
diving CSUB goalkeeper to knot the game at 1-1.
The Toros took their first lead of the contest
at the 71:14 mark as Ryan Taylor (Chino Hills, CA/Ayala HS)
followed Koza's lead by collecting a cross from Kei Kamara
(Lawndale, CA/Leuzinger HS) and heading in his second goal of the
season. But the Roadrunners knotted the contest just two minutes
later as Felipe Becerra headed in a deflected shot to tie the game
at 2-2.
Just six minutes later in this see-saw battle,
senior Cobb gave the Toros a 3-2 lead as he found himself alone at
the top of the box and blasted a sitter with just over 10 minutes
left in regulation. Cal State Bakersfield, however, would enjoy
the last score as Rea lofted his shot over Polak's outstretched
arms with less than three minutes left in the second half.
CSUDH's Nathan Reeves (Lakewood, CA/Lakewood
HS) had a chance to give the Toros the win as he found himself
three feet in front of the net with time expiring, but his blast
was intercepted by CSUB's second goalkeper of the night, Marc
Perez, who smothered Reeves' shot with :03 on the clock.
The Toros outshot the 'Runners 18-15, while
running their unbeaten streak to nine. Polak tallied two saves in
goal while CSUB's Josh Wicks and Perez combined for five saves on
the night.
The Toros travel to Chico State on Friday,
October 8, before heading to Cal State Stanislaus two days later.
