CHICO, Calif.--(October 8, 2004)--The Cal State
Dominguez Hills women's soccer team battled back from a two-goal
deficit to earn a 2-2 double-overtime draw at Chico State in
California Collegiate Athletic Association action Friday afternoon
at Wildcat Field.
The tie is the first for the Toros in the 2004
campaign and now find their overall record at 8-4-1 and 4-2-1 in
CCAA play. Chico State is now 4-3-3 and 3-1-2 in league action.
Down 2-0, Nikki Szlak (Long Beach, CA/Los
Alamitos HS) cut the deficit in half in the 62nd minute when she
collected a loose ball inside the box, beat the goalie and tucked
her shot inside the far post.
Rachele McDonald (Ventura, CA/Buena HS) sent
the game into overtime in the 73rd minute on a defensive miscue.
McDonald took advantage when Wildcat keeper C.J. Jimenez dropped
that ball right at McDonald's feet who finished at close range to
knot the score, 2-2.
Both defenses staved off rallies in the two
extra periods to settle for the draw. Chico State could not finish
on several set pieces in both overtime periods, while CSUDH also
had a lot of scoring opportunities but would not be able to
register the Golden Goal on the road.
Cal State Dominguez Hills continues the
two-game CCAA roadtrip up North with a game at Cal State
Stanislaus on Sunday beginning at 3 PM.
