CARSON, Calif.--Cal State Dominguez Hills ran
its unbeaten streak to 12 games with a convincing 4-1 victory over
visiting San Francisco State in California Collegiate Athletic
Association action Friday afternoon in front of a raucous
homecoming crowd at Toro Field.
CSUDH, ranked No. 15 in the latest NSCAA/adidas
poll, is now 11-2-2 overall and remain atop the CCAA South
Division standings with a 7-0-2 mark. San Francisco State falls to
5-9-1 and 4-4-1 in league play.
Sophomore midfielder Adrian Szasz (Stroudsburg,
PA) put Cal State Dominguez Hills ahead in the 33rd minute on a
direct kick from 18 yards out. Szasz hit a blast to the upper far
corner past the outstretched hands of Gator goalie Gabe Hall for
the 1-0 lead.
Less than five minutes later in the 38th
minute, freshman phenom Kei Kamara (Lawndale, CA/Leuzinger HS)
registered his team-leading 12th goal of the season. On that play
Francisco Corona (Compton, CA/Compton HS) crossed in a pass from
the left side inside the box. Jesse Graham (San Diego, CA/Point
Loma HS) flicked the ball back to the top of the box to Kamara's
feet who rifled his shot to the far post for the 2-0 lead.
The score stayed that way until five minutes
into the second period when Graham knocked in his fifth goal of
the year. After taking a pass from defender Jeff Kunze (Huntington
Beach, CA/Edison HS), Graham beat Hall who was off his line from
15 yards away and found the back of the net.
Ram Ananda spoiled the shutout bid with a goal
in the 57th minute for the Gators. Ananda took a rebound off Toro
goalie Kyle Polak (Huntington Beach, CA/Fountain Valley HS) and
knocked in a close-range shot at the mouth of the goal.
But Szasz put the game out of reach with his
second goal of the game in the 59th minute. Corona sent a cross
inside the penalty box, finding the head of Szasz who placed it
perfectly past the keeper for the final margin.
For the Toros, it is the third win in a row and
the 10th in the past 12 games dating back to September 3rd.
CSUDH was in control throughout today holding a
25-6 advantage in the shot department, and a 6-1 edge in corner
kicks.
