LOS ANGELES, Calif.--Fort Lewis College got 23
points from Ryan Sonnek, including five three-pointers, to defeat
Cal State Dominguez Hills, 75-57, in the first round of the Cal
State L.A. Thanksgiving Classic Friday night at the Eagles' Nest.
CSUDH (0-3) had a 6-1 lead early in the game,
but FLC went on a 22-4 run to take control, 23-10 with 11:37
remaining. Sonnek hit for 15 points, including back-to-back treys
with three minutes left in the first period to help the Skyhawks
take a 16-point lead into the break, 45-29.
FLC (2-0) held the Toros to just two baskets in
the first ten minutes of the second half, while reeling off 17
points of their own to take a 62-39 lead halfway through the
period. Cal State Dominguez Hills would trim the lead down to 17,
but would get no closer dropping their third-consecutive contest
to open up the 2004-05 campaign.
Eric Crookshank and Quishawn Harrell paced the
Toros with 10 points apiece. Crookshank grabbed a game-high seven
rebounds in the game.
Sonnek led all scorers with 23 points on 7-13
from the floor, including 5-8 from beyond the arc. Three other
Skyhawk players scored in double figures.
CSUDH will be back in action tomorrow night
against Christian Heritage. The Toros will be looking to avenge a
loss earlier this week in their home opener at the hands of the
Hawks. First tip is set for 5 PM.
