Christian Heritage used a 26-10 run midway
through the second half to erase a three point deficit and take
the lead for good in beating Cal State Dominguez Hills for the
second time in the last six days, 79-65, at the Cal State L.A.
Thanksgiving Classic Saturday night.
Daniel Walls three-point basket with 11:35
remaining in the game gave Christian Heritage the lead for good,
46-44, and helped spark a run that would give the Hawks a 13-point
cushion with 4:21 left. CSUDH (0-4) trimmed the lead down to eight
points three times in the final minutes, however, Christian
Heritage (7-2) would go 3-for-4 from the field the rest of the
way, while making 6-of-6 from the free throw line to seal the
non-conference win.
Cal State Dominguez Hills took a slim 35-34
lead into the locker room at the half after shooting 59% from the
floor (13-22). But the combination of CHC shooting a blazing 67%
from the field (12-18) in the second half, and the Toros going
cold shooting 26% in the second period spelled defeat for the
Toros who are still in search of their first win under the new
Damaine Powell era on the Carson campus.
Alexous Scruggs came off the bench to lead
CSUDH with 14 points on 6-9 shooting. Quenton Harvey chipped in
with 11 points, while Eric Crookshank and Quishawn Harrell went
for 10 points apiece. Les Norman grabbed a team-high six boards on
the night.
For Christian Heritage, Landon Lockhart came
off the bench to lead the Hawks with 17 points, including going
4-5 from behind the arc. Lloyd Lewis scored 16 points with a
game-high nine rebounds. Rowan Gray added 15 points in the winning
effort.
Cal State Dominguez Hills will now turn their
attention to California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA)
play hosting San Francisco State next Friday night at the
Torodome. First tip is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
