LA MIRADA, Calif.--Cal State Dominguez Hills
outscored host Biola University 42-30 in the second half, but it
was not enough to overcome a dismal 24% shooting percentage in the
first half falling 67-64 in non-conference action Wednesday night
at Chase Gym.
Down 37-22 at the break, CSUDH (3-3) came out
strong outscoring the Eagles 25-12 in the first ten minutes and
tied the game, 49-49, on a Tameka Blue three-pointer with 9:27
remaining.
Biola answered with a 6-0 spurt to take a 55-49
lead after a Mandi England jumper from the top of the key. The
Toros closed to within one point three times in the final five
minutes, the latest after a Jessica Liang trey with just eleven
seconds left in the game.
CSUDH was forced to foul and had a slim chance
of tying the game after Rochelle Crawford missed her second free
throw attempt with six seconds left. However, BU (3-2) pulled down
the offensive board and was fouled giving them two more charity
shots with just four ticks remaining while holding on for the
67-64 win.
Cal State Dominguez Hills fought back to be
sure after shooting just 7-29 from the field in the first half.
The Toros shot 41% (12-29) from the floor in the second period,
but only 33% overall in the game.
Freshman Brittney Blankenship led three players
