WALNUT CREEK, Calif. -- Cal State Dominguez
Hills forward/center Alana Bailey (Altadena, CA/John Muir HS) has
been named the Wilson California Collegiate Athletic Association
Womens Basketball Player of the Week for the week of
December 20-26.
Bailey tallied career highs with 20 points and
14 rebounds, tallying her first-career double-double, in helping
CSUDH secure an 81-66 victory over Western New Mexico on December
20 and improve to 4-3 on the season.
The Altadena native kept the Toros in the game
in the first half by connecting on half of her eight shots from
the field, and turned up her play after intermission to lead the
Toros to the come-from-behind win. After WNMU increased its lead
to 51-38 at the 13:28 mark of the second half, Bailey spurred the
furious comeback as she connected on 5-of-10 shots from the floor
and pulled down nine rebounds, including seven on the offensive
end.
Her lay-up at the 10:06 mark cut the Mustang
lead to 51-48 and her jumper at the 4:12 mark gave the Toros the
lead for good at 60-59.
In all, her 50% shooting and stellar board work
helped the Toros outrebound the Mustangs 60-41, which helped
account for eight second-chance points in the second half,
compared to just two for WNMU.
This is Baileys first-career CCAA Player
of the Week honor. |
