Cal Poly Pomona (12-4, 7-2 CCAA) took a 36-32 lead into halftime after coming back from a 11 point deficit midway through the first half. Down 23-12 with 12:50 left, the Broncos used a 14-2 run to take the lead for good, 26-25.

CPP came out in the second half and built its lead up to 15 points in the first five minutes using a 16-5 run and taking a 52-37 lead with 15:00 remaining. The Broncos went up by as many as 18 points, 62-44, midway through the second half before CSUDH mounted a comeback to get back within reach.

The Toros outscored CPP 14-4 over the next four minutes to get within eight points, 66-58, with 7:04 left in the game. Both teams went on a scoring drought scoring only five points between them over the next six minutes. Cal State Dominguez Hills (4-12, 3-6 CCAA) held the Broncos scoreless for nearly six minutes before Hervey Malone would snap the streak with a three-pointer at 1:47 making it 69-60. The Toros would get no closer than six points down the stretch.

Missed opportunity is how one might describe tonight's loss for the Toros. CSUDH was called for three technical fouls, of which Cal Poly Pomona converted all six free throws. The Toros also missed 11 free throws on the night, several of those the front end of a one-and-one free throw situation.

Cal Poly's David Sybesma led all scorers with 19 points, ten of them coming at the charity stripe. Jonathan Boyd finished with 14 points, while Jeff Bonds and Dion Cook chipped in with 13 and 12 points respectively. Cook led the team on the boards with seven rebounds.

Senior forward Eric Crookshank (Vallejo, CA/Chabot JC) led the Toros with 16 points on 8-of-9 from the floor. Senior guard Les Norman (Lebanon, IL/Lebanon HS) followed with 15 points and a game-high eight rebounds. Quenton Harvey (Compton, CA/Cleveland HS) was also in double figures in the game chipping in with 12.

The Toros hit the road this Friday to take on CCAA newcomer Cal State Monterey Bay. First tip is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. The game can be heard live on the internet on Waldcast.net. Ronnie Wald will be calling the play-by-play for the Toros.
