Seaside, Calif. Cal State Dominguez
Hills pulled away in the second half for an 80-59 women's
basketball win over Cal State Monterey Bay at the Kelp Bed Friday
night.
For most of the first half, the two teams
played pretty even. A jumper from Britnea Moore put Cal State
Monterey Bay up, 18-14 with 12:27 to go in the first half. Cal
State Dominguez Hills finished the half on a 25-15 run to lead,
39-33.
In the second half, Veronica Newsome hit a
tough jumper to close the gap to seven, 49-42 with 15:06 to go.
Over the next eight minutes, the Toros outscored the Otters, 20-4
to put the game out of reach.
For Cal State Dominguez Hills (8-2 CCAA, 10-6),
Octavia Askew had 17 points and six steals, Tameka Blue had 13
points, six assists and three steals and Brittney Blankenship had
12 points.
For Cal State Monterey Bay (0-9 CCAA, 3-13),
Denise Sanchez had 12 points, Moore scored 10 points and Michelle
Hale had 10 points and 13 rebounds. Andrea Hanshew (Taft,
Calif./Taft Union HS) had 11 assists, the third highest
single-game total in school history.
Cal State Dominguez Hills is back in league
action next weekend as they continue this three-game road swing to
Northern California. The Toros will travel to Sonoma State on
Friday, February 4 to take on the Seawolves. Tip-off is scheduled
for 5:30 p.m. in Rohnert Park.
