Bailey's Double-Double Leads Toros to Win Over Cal State L.A.
Freshman scores 12 points and grabs 10 boards to lead CSUDH to fourth win in a row

CARSON, Calif.—(February 11, 2005)—Freshman forward Alana Bailey (Altadena/John Muir HS) registered a double-double scoring 12 points and grabbing 10 rebounds to lead Cal State Dominguez Hills to a 64-45 women's basketball victory over visiting Cal State L.A. in California Collegiate Athletic Association victory Friday night in the Torodome.

CSUDH (13-6, 11-2 CCAA) connected for four-consecutive three point baskets, three by Lindsay Peloza (Aliso Viejo/Saddleback JC), to take a 16-4 lead at 11:20.

The Golden Eagles answered with a 16-4 run of their own to cut the lead down to four points, 20-16, with 6:45 left in the first half after a pair of free throws by Charmaine Utz. The Toros would close out the first period on an 11-8 run to go into the intermission with a 31-24 lead.

The Toros came out blistering hot in the second half and opened up the period with a 21-12 run over the first ten minutes to take a 52-36 lead with 9:27 left in the game. The run was capped by a steal and lay-up by guard Jessica Liang (Alhambra/Mark Keppel HS) to take control.

Cal State Dominguez Hills built a 22-point lead down the stretch to go on for their fourth consecutive win and ninth in its past ten games.

Cal State Dominguez Hills held Cal State L.A. to 25% shooting from the field in the second half and 28% for the game. The Toros meanwhile shot 47% in the game, including 52% in the second half.

After Bailey’s double-double, Octavia Askew (Van Nuys/Birmingham HS) and Peloza followed with 11 points apiece.

Amber Todd led Cal State L.A. with a game-high 20 points. Charmaine Utz pulled down a team-best seven rebounds in the losing effort.

CSUDH is back in league action tomorrow night hosting Cal State Bakersfield in the Torodome. First tip is set for 5:30 p.m.
