IRVINE, Calif.--(February 15, 2005)--Cal State
Dominguez Hills got strong pitching from starter Dustin Gober and
reliever Gary Scott to nip Concordia University (CA) 2-1 in
non-conference action Tuesday afternoon at CU Field in Irvine.
Gober went the first 5.0 innings allowing only
one run on five hits while striking out four batters. Scott (1-0)
came on in the sixth and finished the game to earn his first win
of the year. Scott went 4.0 complete shutout innings allowing only
two hits while striking out six.
CSUDH (4-4) got on the board in the third
inning scoring an unearned run to take a 1-0 lead. With two outs
and Houston Hernandez on third base, Isidro Perez reached on an
error by pitcher Scott Brunasso allowing Hernandez to scamper
home.
After Concordia (2-4) tied the game with a run
in the fifth, Cal State Dominguez Hills scored the eventual
winning run on another Eagle error. With Chris Martinez on second,
Chris Lusic reached on an infield error allowing Martinez to score
for the final margin, 2-1.
Scott slammed the door after that striking out
five of the final six batters he faced to earn his first win of
the year.
The Toros were led offensively at the plate by
Matt Hopps who went 2-for-4 on the day.
CSUDH is back in league action this weekend
traveling down to La Jolla to take on UC San Diego in a three-game
series beginning on Friday. First pitch is slated for 2 PM. The
series will conclude on Saturday with a twinbill beginning at
noon.
