CARSON, Calif.--(February 16, 2005)--The Cal
State Dominguez Hills women's basketball team moved up three spots
to the No. 3 position in the NCAA Division II West Region ranking
released Wednesday.
Seattle Pacific (19-1), the defending regional
champion, stayed at No. 1. Western Washington (18-2) remained at
No. 2 for the fourth straight week.
The Toros improved its postseason chances with
wins over Cal State L.A. and Cal State Bakersfield, who was ranked
ahead of CSUDH in the last poll, last weekend at home.
Rounding out the top-10 are No. 4 Chico State
(17-4), No. 5 Cal State Bakersfield (15-6), No. 6 Saint Martin's
(16-5), No. 7 Cal Poly Pomona (16-5), No. 8 Montana State-Billings
(15-6), No. 9 Cal State San Bernardino (15-6) and No. 10 UC San
Diego (13-8).
The Toros, who have won five in a row, and ten
of its last eleven games, continue a four-game homestand this
weekend with a crucial game against Chico State on Friday,
followed with a tilt on Saturday against Cal State Stanislaus.
Both games are scheduled for a 5:30 p.m. tip.
The final regional poll determines which teams
are awarded the six at-large berths and join the California
Collegiate Athletic Association and Great Northwest Athletic
Conference regular-season champions in the West Regional of the
NCAA II National Tournament from March 11-14.
