The win over the Wildcats, No. 18 in the national rankings, solidifies the Toros hold atop the CCAA standings.

CSUDH took a 37-32 lead into the locker room after being down 9-0 to start the night. The Toros used a 19-11 run to get back into the game and took the lead, 21-20, after a nice drive to the basket and a layup by Karen Shirley (San Diego, CA/Morse HS) with 8:40 on the clock.

Cal State Dominguez Hills used a 9-2 spurt from there to take its biggest lead of the first half, 30-22, capped on a jumper inside the paint by Blue with 5:41 remaining. But Chico would answer back with a 10-1 run to retake the lead, 32-31, after Kim Abts second three-pointer of the half at 2:19.

The Toro defense would hold the Wildcats scoreless over the final 2:19, while Blue and Jessica Liang (Alhambra, CA/Mark Keppel HS) would hit treys to give CSUDH the five-point lead at the break.

The game was tied three times in the first seven minutes of the second half before the Toros would take the lead for good, 51-49, after a pair of free throws by Shirley with 12:56 left. CSUDH would build a double-digit lead, 71-61, after a layup by freshman Alana Bailey at 6:30.

Chico (17-5, 11-4 CCAA) trimmed the lead down to five points twice over the final six minutes, but would get no closer. Blue went on to score the final six points of the game for CSUDH to ice the game, 84-73.

Cal State Dominguez Hills' bench came up huge tonight with 36 bench points compared to only five for Chico. Crystal Maciel (Los Angeles, CA/South Gate HS) led the bench scoring with 12 points on four-consecutive three-pointers in the second half.

Octavia Askew (Van Nuys, CA/Birmingham HS) and Bailey followed Blue in the scoring department contributing with 11 points each.

Haley Ford, Maija Panttaja, and Lauren Himmelspach paced the balanced Chico attack with 14 points each. Kim Abts and Amber Simmons followed with 13. Simmons also grabbed a team-best nine rebounds.

CSUDH is back in league action tomorrow night hosting Cal State Stanislaus in the Torodome. First tip is set for 5:30 p.m.
