CARSON, Calif.-(February 18, 2005)-Tameka Blue
(Watsonville, CA/Santa Cruz HS) registered a double-double pouring
in a game-high 21 points and grabbing 10 rebounds to lead host Cal
State Dominguez Hills to an 84-73 California Collegiate Athletic
Association win Friday night in the Torodome.

The win over the Wildcats, No. 18 in the
national rankings, solidifies the Toros hold atop the CCAA
standings.
CSUDH took a 37-32 lead into the locker room
after being down 9-0 to start the night. The Toros used a 19-11
run to get back into the game and took the lead, 21-20, after a
nice drive to the basket and a layup by Karen Shirley (San Diego,
CA/Morse HS) with 8:40 on the clock.
Cal State Dominguez Hills used a 9-2 spurt from
there to take its biggest lead of the first half, 30-22, capped on
a jumper inside the paint by Blue with 5:41 remaining. But Chico
would answer back with a 10-1 run to retake the lead, 32-31, after
Kim Abts second three-pointer of the half at 2:19.
The Toro defense would hold the Wildcats
scoreless over the final 2:19, while Blue and Jessica Liang
(Alhambra, CA/Mark Keppel HS) would hit treys to give CSUDH the
five-point lead at the break.
The game was tied three times in the first
seven minutes of the second half before the Toros would take the
lead for good, 51-49, after a pair of free throws by Shirley with
12:56 left. CSUDH would build a double-digit lead, 71-61, after a
layup by freshman Alana Bailey at 6:30.
Chico (17-5, 11-4 CCAA) trimmed the lead down
to five points twice over the final six minutes, but would get no
closer. Blue went on to score the final six points of the game for
CSUDH to ice the game, 84-73.
Cal State Dominguez Hills' bench came up huge
tonight with 36 bench points compared to only five for Chico.
Crystal Maciel (Los Angeles, CA/South Gate HS) led the bench
scoring with 12 points on four-consecutive three-pointers in the
second half.
Octavia Askew (Van Nuys, CA/Birmingham HS) and
Bailey followed Blue in the scoring department contributing with
11 points each.
Haley Ford, Maija Panttaja, and Lauren
Himmelspach paced the balanced Chico attack with 14 points each.
Kim Abts and Amber Simmons followed with 13. Simmons also grabbed
a team-best nine rebounds.
CSUDH is back in league action tomorrow night
hosting Cal State Stanislaus in the Torodome. First tip is set for
5:30 p.m.
