Tonights victory, coupled by Chico States
win over Cal Poly Pomona, gives the Toros a two-game lead in the
CCAA Conference with four contests left in the regular season, and
improves their record to 16-6, 14-2 CCAA. The Warriors fall to
4-19, 3-13 CCAA.
The visitors came out energized to begin the
contest, taking a 17-8 lead with just over seven minutes elapsed
in the first half. A Naupaka Uperesa (Jordan, UT/ Pocatello
HS/Umpqua CC) bucket at the 12:14 mark would jump start the Toros
and send them on a 14-4 run, giving CSUDH a 22-21 advantage, its
first lead of the ballgame, with 7:36 remaining in the first
20-minute frame.
CSUDH would continue to share the wealth as six
different Toros scored at least five points in the first half. A
Jessica Liang (Alhambra, CA/Mark Keppel HS) lay-up with 0:26 left
would close out the scoring, giving the Toros their biggest lead
at 44-33 entering the locker room.
CSUDH continued to keep the pressure on the
visitors after intermission, building its lead to 63-40 on a Ree
Browne (Torrance, CA/South Torrance HS) basket with 12:01 left in
regulation. The Warriors would trim point-by-point off their
deficit, but wouldnt get within single digits the rest of
the contest. After Lindsay Peloza (Alisa Viejo, CA/Capistrano
Valley HS/Saddleback JC) converted on a long jumper to give CSUDH
a 67-49 cushion, CSUS would score the final five points of the
contest, giving the Toros a convincing 67-54 decision.
Of Blues 19 points, 11 came from the foul
line as the Toros doubled the Warriors output at the charity
stripe. The CSUDH defense stepped up as well, swiping 12 balls and
causing 23 turnovers, resulting in a decisive 21-8 advantage in
points off turnovers.
Alana Bailey chipped in with nine points and a
team-high seven boards, while Liang and Uperesa contributed seven
points each in the win.
For the Warriors, Lindsie LeFort tallied 17

by a crucial contest at Cal Poly Pomona on Wednesday, March 2.
